Neema Githere is a writer, curator, artist, community organiser, and guerrilla theorist. Their work ‘explores love and indigeneity in a time of algorithmic debris’. They have been investigating the digital space and, specifically, the psychology of social media since 2016, starting with a project called #digitaldiaspora, which explores how afro-diasporic creatives articulate new identities on- and offline. Neema is a 2023-24 Practitioner Fellow at Stanford’s Digital Civil Society Lab, where she is working on Data Healing: A Call for Repair, a project that employs indigenous value systems to develop a digital rehabilitation clinic.

During their month-long stay at the studio, Neema kindly offered their expertise on artificial intelligence and worked with us on an AI-feasibility study. Seeking to develop basic AI literacy in the studio, we are following current debates around AI, assessing the potentials and pitfalls of integrating AI tools into studio workflows, and, in more general terms, engaging in discussion around this versatile technology.
