Sophie Erlund talks about The Green Spill, 2025, a mixed-reality virtual experience (XR) presented at the Festival of Future Nows 2025 at the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin. On headsets, a narrator guides the visitor through three distinct worlds – the biological self, the neurological self, and the technological self – taking them on a journey that examines the human condition, our evolving relationship with the natural world, and the deep tensions between our physical bodies and the digital realms we inhabit.
The Green Spill grew out of Experimenting, Experiencing, Reflecting (EER) and was realised with the help of developers Marie Dubus and Daniel Massey.
